What is AI search visibility?
AI search visibility is how often AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews name your business, or link to your site, when people ask the questions that lead to a business like yours. It’s the AI-era version of ranking on page one: if the assistant doesn’t name you, the buyer may never know you exist.
This checker measures it the way a buyer would meet it. We write the questions your buyers are most likely to ask, put them to Claude with web search on, and record whether you’re named, where you’re placed in the list, whether your site is cited, and which businesses are recommended instead. Then we show you why, from your content, your site’s technical set-up and the links that point to it.
What we record for each question
- Whether you’re named
- Where you’re placed in the list
- Whether your site is cited
- Who’s recommended instead
What is answer engine optimisation?
Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is making your website easy for AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews to find, understand and recommend. Where SEO earns a place in a list of links, AEO earns a mention, or a citation, in the answer itself.
More buyers now start with a question to an assistant instead of a search. The assistant reads a handful of sources and recommends a few businesses. If your site is hard for AI crawlers to read, doesn’t answer the questions buyers ask, or isn’t mentioned anywhere else, you’re left out of that answer, however good your service is.
Most of what AEO needs is solid website practice: clear, specific pages, structured data, content that answers real questions, and a footprint beyond your own site. The assessment shows you which of those you have, and which you don’t.
What the assessment checks.
Content
Whether your site answers the 50 questions your buyers are most likely to ask, how recently it’s been updated, and whether pages lead with clear answers AI can quote.
Technical
Whether AI crawlers can reach and read your pages without running JavaScript, and whether structured data, your sitemap, metadata, speed and links help them understand the site.
Authority
The evidence that you can be trusted: an about page, real people, reviews and case studies, linked profiles, and the sites that link to you, especially ones about your industry, compared with the businesses AI recommends instead.
AI visibility
We put 20 questions your buyers might ask to Claude with web search on, the way a prospect would, and measure how often you’re mentioned, cited and recommended over competitors.
How it works.
Tell us your site
Your name, website and an email at that website’s domain. It takes thirty seconds.
We read it the way AI does
We read up to 30 pages as AI crawlers see them, put your buyers’ questions to AI, and search the web for mentions of you.
Your report arrives
Usually within ten minutes: your score out of 5, what’s holding you back, and your top three priorities.

How the scores work.
You get four scores from 1 to 5. AI visibility is the outcome: how often AI assistants name you when buyers ask. Content, Technical and Authority are what earn it. Those three start at level 1; AI visibility starts at 0, because a business AI never names hasn’t earned a point there. Each level above it has a short list of requirements, such as organisation structured data or being named in a quarter of AI answers, and is worth one point, shared between them: meet three of a level’s four requirements and it adds three quarters of a point. Levels count in order: if you meet fewer than half of a level’s requirements, the levels above it don’t count yet.
Your overall score is the average of the four, rounded down, and never higher than your AI visibility: a site AI rarely recommends can’t score well, however good it is on paper. Your report lists every requirement, met or not, so the next step is obvious.
AI visibility and AEO, answered. What people ask about AI search visibility, answer engine optimisation and the assessment.
A tool that measures how often AI assistants mention or recommend your business when people ask relevant questions. Ours asks 20 buyer questions with web search on, records whether you’re named, cited and where you’re placed, compares you with the businesses AI recommends instead, and scores your AI visibility from 0 to 5.
Ask it the questions your buyers would ask, such as “who are the best [your service] in [your city]?”, several times and in different ways, because answers vary. This checker does that systematically with Claude: assistants differ in the details, but they reward the same things, so a business one recommends tends to do well with the others.
Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is making your website easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews to find, understand and recommend. You’ll also see it called generative engine optimisation (GEO), LLM SEO or AI SEO.
SEO aims for a high place in a list of search results. AEO aims to be named, quoted or cited inside an AI-written answer. They overlap a lot: crawlable pages, structured data and good content help both. AEO puts more weight on answering questions directly and on being mentioned across the web.
Yes. There’s no cost and no obligation. You’ll get your report by email, and if you’d like help with it, you can book a call. If you don’t, that’s fine too.
The assessment is for your own website, and each one costs us real money to run, so the email has to be at the same domain (you@yourcompany.com for yourcompany.com). It keeps it to genuine requests and stops people running reports on other businesses. We send your report once and won’t add you to a newsletter unless you ask. If you’re an agency wanting one for a client, get in touch and we’ll run it for you.
Usually under ten minutes. You don’t need to wait on the page: the report arrives by email with a link to the full version, which you can share with your team.
We ask Claude, Anthropic’s AI, with web search turned on, as a prospect would. Assistants differ in the details, but they reward the same things: pages they can read, clear answers and evidence from other sites. A site that does well with one tends to do well with the others.
The site checks are measurements of the pages we read. The AI parts, like question coverage and visibility, are generated by AI and vary from day to day, so treat them as a well-informed guide, not a guarantee.
Any public website, whether it’s built on Webflow, WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace or custom code. We only read what’s publicly visible, so we don’t need access to your site.
Every three to six months, or after a significant change to your site. We ask the same buyer questions for six months, so a second assessment shows what’s really changed. You can run one assessment per website per day.
Yes. Superbrick designs and builds Webflow and custom websites with AEO built in, and improves existing sites. Book a call and we’ll go through your report together and agree what’s worth doing first.
